About the Project
The Library of Birmingham is one of the largest public libraries in the world and as part of the construction and design, it was important that the shading system helped create a comfortable environment for all users. Capricorn assisted with the bespoke design and configuration of a Roller Shade System which was fully concealed above the ceiling when not in use and controlled via an automated control system. This control system was designed and installed by the Capricorn team to enable the blinds to operate in accordance with external brightness levels to reduce the amount of internal glare. This included an external roof-mounted weather station and PC software to enable the Library’s FM team to monitor and adjust the blinds over time.
The Library of Birmingham is one of the main attractions of the UK, with the Library gaining 2.7million visits on its initial opening, making it the 10th most visited attraction in the UK and the most popular outside of the UK, and the following year the visits dropped to 1.8million visits, however, it was still the 11th most visited attraction in the UK.
